BFA Student and Aspiring Filmmaker

Hi! My name is Vaneeza Shah, and I am a BFA Filmmaking student and aspiring filmmaker at Mason Gross School of the Arts at Rutgers University. My work explores poetic, character-driven narratives, focusing on themes of resilience, identity, and perception. I approach filmmaking with an immersive curiosity, seeking to understand people, relationships, and the unseen forces that shape our lives.
Alongside filmmaking, I am pursuing a degree in Data Science at Rutgers University, allowing me to balance artistic intuition with structured problem-solving. This dual perspective informs my approach to storytelling, helping me navigate both the creative and logistical demands of filmmaking.
I believe in the discipline of craft—the same kind of intense preparation and dedication that drives transformative performances and deeply realized stories. Whether I’m directing, producing, or writing, I strive to create work that feels both rigorous and alive.
I’m always open to discussions on film, storytelling, and creative collaboration. Let’s connect!
My latest short film, The Proposal, is currently in the festival circuit, examining the quiet yet powerful warning signs in relationships and the patterns that shape our lives. In addition to directing, I have also produced multiple short films, deepening my understanding of how to support and execute a strong creative vision.
